FEBRUARY SHOW SCHEDULE NOW READY FOR DOWNLOAD

November & December 2008 - Corton held its November agility show and it went without a hitch. We must start by thanking everyone who helped out on the day, judges, show secretary, scribes, timekeepers, runners, ring helpers, on-call vets, show manager & Photographer, club members, competitors and, of course, the dogs.

All dogs behaved well and the turnout of entries was very good for the day. We have a page dedicated to the day with all results and some of the pictures taken on the day so feel free to take a look.

Some of the places gained at the show were held by our members, our trainers daughter, Rosie Sawyer (just 6yrs old along with her twin sister Millie who also entered, both probably the youngest competitors on the day) gained the judges special with her round with Honey in agility 1-3 small and Anne Boyles was placed 4th in agility 1-3 large with her dog Meg. Pauline Caddick and Vicki gained a 4th place in agility 4-7 small and went on to gain a 3rd in agility 4-7 medium with Kelli. Sammie Stevens gained a 4th in agility 4-7 Large with her dog Dylon.

In the Jumping sections, Judi Packett gained 4th place with her entry in Jumping grade 1-3 for Small. Pauline Caddick went on to gain a 2nd in Jumping grade 4-7 Small with Vicki, and a 5th with a clear round in Jumping grade 4-7 Medium with Kelli.

On to Steeplechase and we saw our own Joy Stanbrook gain a 3rd in grade 1-3 large with her dog Jinty. Pauline Caddick stepped up again to take a 5th in the 4-7 small with Vicki and again in the 4-7 medium with Kelli gaining a 4th. There were lots of other members from corton club there on the day and they all enjoyed running the courses set up for us to try. Some we saw run for the first time in their first competition but nerves definitely got the better of them, better luck next time for those who were not successful at this show.

This month we are very lucky to have an article written for us by the founder of Corton Agility Training Society, Elaine Thompson. It documents the last year for Elaine and through it all her dogs have kept her going. I think you will agree it is a very touching piece which proves that dogs are mans (or in this case woman's) best friends and they give us more than we could ever give back.

Training Times for December are up and please remember that the last day of training is the 9th of December, with a members only Christmas Dog Fun Agility Session and possible Knockout competition with games on 16th December 2008. Training will begin again on January 13th 2009.

There are some new images added to our normal Gallery of Jill Holness' dogs Foxy and Whoosh at a recent UKA show, Foxy won her class at casual jumping at her first show and Whoosh went a clear round at his first show in beginner Steeplechase, well done guys.

We will post the photos from the Corton Christmas dinner as soon as we can after the event, we are all looking forward to this with much excitement.

There will probably be little news for December and this is likely to be the last blog for this year, we would like to take this opportunity to say that we hope you all have a Happy Christmas and a Peaceful New Year, a Merry Christmas to you all from Corton ATS.

October 31st 2008 - We start our news with the announcement of a new trainer, Sammie Stevens has agreed to take one training session a month, this will allow our other trainers some time to train their dogs when attending club. We have already had one session under Sammie's careful eye and have benefited from her advice and guidance already.

News from Pauline Caddick: Pauline has summarised some of her results from this year, she has had a good year with many clear rounds (too many to list), even though she has not been able to run her main agility dog, Kelli, as much as she would normally due to injury, she has managed to total up some results to be proud of with Vicki. Some of you will remember that Kelli was Dog Of the Year at Corton last year, then sadly she was injured and was out of action for some months. She has made a slow but steady recovery undergoing hydrotherapy and is now back at club and entering competitions.

Pauline took Vicki to attended an unaffiliated show to start with where she gained 1st in jumping 4-7, then on to Castlereagh on 8th June in grade 6 agility and was placed 4th, then grade 6 jumping to be placed 3rd. To the IOM in June on the 14th & 15th taking part in 6-7 Jumping and was placed 2nd, then 4-7 Agility and was placed 2nd, also taking part in 1-7 Agility and was placed 3rd and finally 1-7 Jumping and was placed 5th. Then in July at Bincknoll she secured 6th in Jumping and 3rd in Gamblers. Stoneleigh was next in August 25th where she secured 3rd in Helter Skelter and 2nd in Jumping. Chatsworth was next in August and saw her gain 3rd in 1-6 Agility. LINCOLN  in September saw a Grade 6 Agility place 7th, and a Grade 6-7 Clear round.

Then in September Kelli was back in the ring and went to Lisburn where she secured the following all at medium: 1-7 agility with a 3rd place, grade 6 agility with a 2nd place, 1-7 jumping a clear round, 1-7 agility with a 4th place, HCB Agility 3-6 jumping with a 2nd and 3-6 H/S with a 1st place.

Kelli is also a great flyball lead dog as she has the stamina to keep running especially if there are a lot of false starts so she has missed this activity over the last year. Pauline is over the moon as she is now back at flyball too albeit not quite at her olds speed just yet. Her last show was ours 4-7 steeplechase 2nd. A fantastic recovery.

In between these times and even on the same weekends Pauline was also competing in flyball with her new girl POPPI. Pauline says that "Poppi is fantastic and with her in the team we make great times". Thanks for you news Pauline.

News from Joyce Turner: her working cocker spaniel 'Star' successfully gave birth to 5 pups earlier this month, one boy and four girls, all have homes waiting for them and they are all agility homes too, so we will see them in the ring at some point. Congratulations for their safe arrival.

News from Joy Stanbrook: Joy ran her dog Becks at the weekend and gained a 3rd and 4th place in the agility classes. Well done Joy and Becks for fabulous results.

News from Jill Holness: Jill is only a recent addition to competitive agility, after many years of success in the obedience ring, this weekend she took part in her very first agility show and was delighted to watch her Collie Foxy gain an excellent 1st place in casual jumping, she then saw her dog whoosh in his very first competition too, go a clear round and gain a 4th place to boot in the agility class, so many congratulations to you both on such an entrance to the agility scene.

Training Times for November are up as usual they have changed around for the month and now include the group lists.

November will see us hold our last club agility show for the calendar year, we have a running order and entries list available for you on our show page with some additional show information so check out the numbers, times and schedule for the day.

September 30th 2008 - We start with our successes for the month, well done's and congratulations must go to Elaine Thompson and Shimo for their win at Letchworth KC, Shimo is now in KC Grade 6. At the UKA Tournament Final Shimo also gained an 8th in Toy, at the same show Jillian and Dottie gained 13th in the Medium class and Elaine and Azlan gained a 10th in the Large class. Well done guys. Carole Harris and Chico have had a brilliant season with Chico winning 3 jumping events in grade 1 and a win in an agility class which takes him to grade 2. They also went to the KC Festival in August and Chico came second overall in the Starters Cup so they have now qualified to go to Crufts - terrific news guys.

Entries to our show in November had to close early due to the massive response we received, the Limited show was full within just a few days of the schedule being made available, which is wonderful news. Sorry to anyone who has missed out on the opportunity to come to this show, your forms will be returned to you by post, but please try again for our next one in February 2009.

Training for August has changed so check out the Training Times page for the new times and which class you should attend.

Dog of the Year has been updated so go and see how your are doing in the positions list.

We finally have some photo's of some of our members on the Members page so check out us with our beautiful dogs. Those Corton Members who would like their details added please send photos of you and your dogs with name and info for inclusion to Becki.

We also have some news from Carol Roderick who will be accepting care of her next hearing dog for the deaf in November. Carol writes that; her name is SHELLY, she is 15 months old from Southern Ireland, is a King Charles Cavalier X. She has the markings of a cavalier on her face and head, but prettier and is about 39-40cms tall at the shoulders and is also a LIVEWIRE! Very cheeky and also very affectionate - We look forward to meeting her when she comes to club.

We have welcomed back to club this month Pauline's dog Kelly, who has been off with a very poorly leg. She has undergone treatment including hydro-therapy and is now back to club for practice and back in the ring and doing very well, much to Pauline's relief. Welcome back Kelly we missed you.

This month I (Becki) finally took the plunge and went and got my dog Willow and my son's dog Rudi, officially measured ready for the Corton Show in November. This was my first time to an actually agility competition and I was amazed by what I saw. It was great to meet up with Joy, Jill, Jillian, Carol and Judi who were all there to either compete or, like me, have their dogs measured ready for competition. After measuring I went to watch the proceedings and saw lots of different handling techniques, the variety of dogs achieving excellent standards and the judges techniques for reporting faults or clear rounds was very interesting to see. It's made me even more excited about my venture into the ring this November and I can't wait. I learned a lot from just watching how things are done and a lot less nervous about taking part now I know what I should expect in November. While there I watched as Carole Harris completed a clear round with Chico which was lovely to see and also watched Rosie and Millie complete in the ring with Honey and Kes, they both did really well with a Judges Special being awarded to Millie and Kes for their round in the ring.

We have some wonderful new pictures added to our Gallery of some of the Corton dogs at practice, so go a take a peek.

Well that's all the news for this month, anyone with any news, stories, photo's or results to share please pass them to Becki for inclusion onto the website.

Until next month, goodbye from Corton ATS .

August 31st 2008 - August is generally a quiet time with children off school, so we have a few results to report but not as many as usual.

Our congratulations must go to Sammie and Dylan who won at a recent championship show making them overall winner, this means that they only have to gain one more win at this level to obtain the Champion Title for Dylan. Well done to Sammie and Dylan for this amazing achievement.

Carole and Chico also had a fantastic August with Chico qualifying for the Starters Cup for Crufts, he came second out of 60 entries, Chico also went on to win the Agility Class taking them out of Grade 1, and to top off their day had two Jumping wins. Well done to Carole and Chico for their successes.

As a club we are preparing for our next show on 22nd November, schedules will be available from the Show Secretary, from September 15th with Entries closing on 7th October. July 10th 2008 - Lots of news this month, but as usual we start with our congratulations to members who have done well since last month update.

Firstly, many congratulations to Elaine Thompson who qualified her dog Shimo for Crufts 2009 along with her co-handler Hannah. Elaine's dog Azlan also moved into Senior level in UKA so well done on that achievement.

Congratulations also go to Jillian and Dottie who, at the Newbury UKA show, gained an excellent clear round in the Crufts Team event, a 1st in Senior Agility, a 1st in 'Snooker' and a 2nd in Senior Jumping. Well done to you both.

Not to be outdone by Mum, Jillians daughter Rosie is due many congratulations too, Rosie (aged just 5 years old) and her dog Kes gained a Clear round in grade 4 jumping and at Golden Valley KC Show gained an excellent 2nd Place in Juniors. Well done Rosie and Kes.

Congratulations go to Joyce with Star and Kaister who also had terrific clear rounds in the Crufts team event at Newbury UKA.

Congratulations also to Pat who, with her dog Taffy (who is Dotties brother), did very well at the Newbury UKA show, gaining the 2nd place in the Snooker and 2nd in the Senior Agility behind his sister. Taffy also gained grade 1 agility on Saturday at Lansdown, so what a great weekend for him. Well done.

Carole Harris also qualified her dog Chico into Senior at UKA earlier last month so well done to them both.

In other news Lyn and her Rhodesian Ridgeback, Inka, entered their very first competitive show at Newbury UKA last month. Well done Lyn and Inka for taking that very first, and sometimes scary step, into competitive agility, we are all very proud of you here at Corton Club.

Corton Dog of the Year figures have been updated so check out the scores so far this year to see how you are doing.

The Clubs Training Times for July have now been updated so don't forget to check out the session you should be attending as they change every month.

Workshop dogs are focusing on contacts and pull-thoughts in some very challenging courses set up by our trainers. Also training in the Beginners and Improvers group is going well, 'homework' given out by the trainers has helped focus on area's such as pull-through's, change of direction and weaves, and is reaping rewards already, helping the dogs and handlers to improve their skills.

Some of us have been lucky enough to continue outdoor training in a local field during the day. This training is proving to be very helpful in improving the skills of some of the less experienced dogs and handlers.

We have added a new picture to the Gallery, so feel free to take a peek, don't forget if you would like a picture of you and/or your dog added to the club website send a copy to me, Becki, digital is best but if you have it, but a hard copy can be used and I shall up-load it to the website with all relevant details.

Don't forget, if you have an agility experience or a 'Top Tip' you would like to share with everyone send it in for inclusion on the website to Becki. Please don't wait to be asked to write an article or your clubs website, if you have a story you would like to share, it could be about anything, your contribution will be very welcome and your experience's could help others.

Until next month that's all for now. Take Care. Corton ATS

June 10th 2008 - Firstly we start with Many Congratulations to some of our members who took part in recent shows:

To Sammie and her dogs who gained excellent 1st and 2nd places respectively at the recent Wye show. Well done to you all for such fantastic results.

Also to Jillian and Dottie who at the PADS Agility Show, on Dottie's first official Grade 6 outing, gained a 2nd in the Medium Grade 6 & 7 combined agility, a 3rd in the Grade 6 Agility and a 4th in the Grade 6 & 7 combined agility. And just to top it off Dottie wnet Grade 6 at Thames and gained a 6th. Jillian is rightly proud of her girl. Not stopping there Jillian's daughter, Millie at the tender age of just 5yrs old, and her dog Kes obtained 2 clear rounds, one in any size jumping and one in veteran jumping, so well done to Millie and Kes for a fantastic result.

And finally to Sharon and Chip, who in grade 6 obtained 2 wins in Small 6 & 7 combined jumping and Small 6 & 7 combined agility which makes him half way to grade 7. Well done Sharon and Chip for such terrific results.

We also have some 'Get Well's' to say: to TJ hope you feel better soon, sadly it looks like TJ will not be coming back to club due to hip displaisia, we will miss you very much TJ but please come and visit us when you can, and to Chaos hope your feeling better soon from your operation, we look forward to having you back at club soon.

Training times have been updated for June so please check before you come to club to ensure you come to the right session.

As part of agility training sometimes we are able to secure an outdoor summer venue where available members can practice in a field with the full set of equipment. This is an important part of agility training for both handlers and dogs, running a dog in an outdoor environment, with all the distractions that come with it, is something very different from that of indoor training. This training can help the dog become accustomed to working in an environment similar to that of a competition. This is crucial in helping the more inexperienced dogs and handlers and we had such an occasion recently. We have added some pictures from this session for you to our Gallery so feel free to take a look.

Don't forget to let Becki know your show results so that we can celebrate them on our Successes page and any stories, news, photo's or information you would like to share with other members and visitors (closing date for next months items is 30th June).

That's all our news for now, so until next month take care. Corton ATS.

April 10th 2008 - Firstly, Corton ATS would like to Welcome its Members and the General Public to our very first entry in the new Latest News (or Blog) of our website. We celebrate our 20th Year as a club this year and what a fitting way to start, launching our very own website to celebrate our success as a club. As you can see we have used the club colours of black and pink, very girly, sorry boys, but we hope you like it.

As you can see we have several pages to our site, we have tried to cover as many things as possible to help answer any question you may have and provide as much information as possible, not only to our clubs members, but also for the 'curious' and the 'keen to start'. Some of our pages are not quite complete yet but they will be up-to-date very soon so do visit again if you haven't found what you are looking for today.

We hope to keep our website interesting by doing monthly updates, and there will no doubt be many more things that will need to be added to our site as it develops and all our members are encouraged to let us know about there news. So if you have details of a success in the agility ring, if you have a story you would like to share or information you think is of use to everyone, please send them in to be considered for inclusion to Becki, the Website Administrator. All our news will be approved by the clubs committee members first before publication onto this site.

The training times page has been updated so check them out if you are unsure when you are to attend Club.

Show Success: As you will have seen from our front page our very own Jillian and Dottie won 1st place in Grade 5 Agility at the Wye Valley show, CONGRATULATIONS to Jillian and Dottie, who now move on to Agility Grade 6.
